“It’s been an amazing journey,” says Executive Consultant Craig Todd about promoting to the penultimate leadership position in Ambit. Thirty months ago Craig was closing his finance business in Dallas. At the same time, the guy across the hall was also closing his business. That was (now NC) Frank Schmaeling. Both Frank and Craig didn’t know what was next for them.

As Craig tells it, Frank mentioned, “A friend of mine is starting an electricity business. Ever heard of Jere Thompson? Ever heard of Chris Chambless?” Craig had heard of both Ambit Energy Co-founders. So he readily accepted Frank’s invitation to a meeting in July 2006 where they were introduced to the business.

About the meeting space Craig recalls, “There was nothing there. It was an open floor. It looked like an empty warehouse. We sat at a card table in a conference room.” But after hearing what Jere, Chris and VP of Field Development Scott Lawrence had to say, Craig was convinced he was at the right place at the right time with the right product. “It was a no-brainer!” Craig joined the business.

Craig’s “Why”

Craig had a big “Why.” Not long prior to his seeing the Ambit Opportunity for the first time, he’d been traveling a lot for his previous business. He got a big wake up call that “brought me to my knees” when he returned home once and his wife, Jennifer, told him the oldest of their two sons, four years old at the time, had asked, “How come Dad doesn’t visit us much any more?” At that time Jennifer and Craig agreed it was time to do something different.

“It’s not all about work,” Craig says. “It’s about the time you can spend with your loved ones and people you care about. Ambit gave me back my time.” Although he still travels to build his Ambit business, “When I’m home I spend more time with my kids than any father you know, and have more money to do it with!”The Ambit system

Early on, Craig Todd had the good fortune to sponsor EC David Spina, who in turn sponsored his mother, EC Esther Spina. “The rest is history,” Craig says.

For Craig and his team, it’s all about the system that Ambit has created. “Ambit created the engine. We just have to put the gas and oil in, keep the engine maintained and running smoothly.” He claims there’s no special strategy or tactic, “no silver bullet,” that leads to success in Ambit. “I just focus on the tools and use the tools that Ambit has put in place for us. Whether it’s popping in a DVD or just making sure that prospects see good presentations. Just use the system in place.” When pushed further, Craig realizes, “I learned how to invite someone to a meeting. I guess the secret is: Learn how to become a ‘Master Inviter.’”

Craig is currently very active in building a team in upstate New York. Craig’s brother, SC Jaffer Mohamed, along with RC David Perez and MC John Rosencrans are just three of Craig’s Upstate lieutenants who have followed the system and understand “we don’t have to reinvent the wheel” to be successful. Craig also gives special thanks to EC Ray Montie for all his help in bringing the Ambit Opportunity to a greater number of people in upstate New York.

Advice: focus on your goals
Craig stresses that nothing is more powerful than your ability to focus on your goals. A great help in doing that is to “make the master copy worth duplicating.” He says success in Ambit depends on “cookie cutter exactness.” He says, “When you’re teaching the system, your team members will eventually realize that they were brought into the business the same say you’re teaching them to bring others in.”

Reaching your goals takes constant course adjustments. “Did you realize that when man first went to the moon, the space ship was off-course 90% of the time?” he asks. “They had the vision to get there, so they could keep making adjustments to reach their goal.” He muses, “If you don’t know what your goal is, how can you focus on it?”

Craig is another successful Consultant who has heeded the advice NC Brian McClure is so famous for: “Bury your success in the success of others and yours becomes a byproduct of it.” Craig says, “It’s 100% the absolute truth!” Craig claims inside his heart, his soul and DNA is a firm commitment to help others get where they need to go.

Former TXU President Invests in Ambit Energy

Something exciting has happened which encourages our belief that Ambit Energy is headed in the right direction as we pursue our goal to be the finest, most-respected company in our industry. The former Vice Chairman, President and COO of TXU, David W. Biegler, has joined the company as an investor and advisor to the executive management team.

As you know, TXU is one of the old monopoly electricity utilities in Texas, the incumbent Retail Electricity Provider for the majority of households in North Texas and our biggest competitor in the area. So it is truly a significant compliment to our business model to have a former competitor join our team. David Biegler’s experience in the energy industry is invaluable. He is a perfect addition to our investor group and we’re extremely happy to have him on board. We look forward to tapping into his expertise and wisdom.

This is the first time David has invested in a Texas-based Retail Electricity Provider. He previously served as Chairman, President and CEO of ENSERCH, the parent of Lone Star Gas Company. He joined ENSERCH in 1966 where he served in a variety of management and executive positions prior to becoming Chairman.

David has been involved in community and charitable activities throughout his career. He has served as President, Circle Ten Council, of the Boy Scouts of America. He has previously chaired the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Citizens Council, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Education is Freedom. He holds a B.S. in Physics from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He also serves as a board member of Southwest Airlines Company, Trinity Industries, Inc. and Dynegy, Incorporated.

By far, the greatest buzz generated at Ambition 2008 was the announcement of free electricity and gas. If you weren’t there, you read that right! We introduced the Customer Referral Bill Credit Program on top of the Customer Referral Travel Program.When a customer refers 15 customers, the referrer receives a credit on their next bill equal to the average amount of the referred customers’ payments. All previously referred customers count toward the 15, and the customer has 120 days to get the remaining customers. For example, say the customer has already referred 5 customers, earned a Travel Award, and their 90-day customer-referral clock has expired. The clock is now reset to 120 days (from September 13, 2008), and those previous 5 customers count. All they need to do is get 10 more within 120 days and they qualify for the credit! This credit can be applied every month, as long as those 15 customers remain active and pay their bills sometime within the 30 days prior to the date the referrer’s bill is generated.

So encourage your customers to enroll more than the minimum 15 referrals just to protect their monthly credit. In Illinois and New York, the credit applies only to the energy supply portion of the bill (the delivery charges are not included). Illinois and New York customers will receive a check in the mail instead of a credit on their bills.

Here’s the really good part: Consultants ARE eligible!
All Consultants have 120 days from September 13, 2008 to gather 15 additional personal customers. As a Consultant, you must be an Ambit Energy customer. (No, we can’t apply the credit to a competitor’s bill!)

So, if your customers have questions about fluctuating rates, problem solved! Show them how they can get their electricity and/or gas for FREE! A flyer describing the program will be mailed to new and existing customers in their monthly bills. And we’ll soon be providing flyers in Power Zone that you can give to your customers as well.
